Eat | Greet | Gather ("the app," "we," "us") is built with privacy at its core. This policy explains what information the app handles, how it is used, and the choices you have. By using the app you agree to the practices described here.
1. No account, no password
Eat | Greet | Gather does not require you to create an account, provide an email address, or set a password. Instead, the app relies on the iCloud identity already associated with your iPhone through your Apple ID. Your Apple ID and its credentials are managed by Apple and are never shared with us.
2. Information the app handles
To make gatherings and sharing work, the app processes the following, stored in Apple's iCloud (CloudKit) and, for offline use, on your device:
- A display name. You choose a name so friends can find and invite you. This name is stored in a directory that other users of the app can search in order to send you invitations.
- Gathering details. Dinners and events you create or are invited to — titles, dates, locations, and menus.
- Shared lists. Grocery lists and the items on them, including which items have been checked off and by whom (shown by display name).
- Messages. Chat messages you send within a gathering.
- An anonymous iCloud user identifier. Apple provides the app with a per-user identifier so invitations and shared content reach the right people. This identifier does not reveal your name, email, or Apple ID.
The app does not collect your contacts, your precise location, your photos, or your device's advertising identifier.
3. Where your information is stored
Your information is stored in Apple's iCloud using CloudKit, both in your private database and — for content you share, such as an invitation, a shared grocery list, or your searchable display name — in a shared or public area that the people you invite (or search) can access. This data lives on Apple's servers under Apple's security and privacy protections. We do not operate our own servers that store your personal content, and we cannot see your Apple ID password or payment information.
4. How your information is used
- To create, sync, and display your gatherings, lists, and messages across your devices.
- To let friends find you by display name and send you invitations.
- To deliver invitations and keep shared content up to date for everyone involved.
- To send push notifications about invitations and shared activity, if you allow notifications.
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.
5. Sharing with other people
The app is designed for sharing with people you choose. When you invite someone to a gathering or a grocery list, that person can see the content you shared and the display name attached to your activity (for example, which items you checked off or messages you sent). Your searchable display name is visible to other app users who look you up to send an invitation. Only share a name and content you are comfortable with others seeing.
6. Push notifications
If you grant permission, the app sends push notifications through Apple's Push Notification service to let you know about invitations and shared activity. You can turn notifications off at any time in the iOS Settings app under Notifications.
7. Third parties
The app uses Apple's iCloud, CloudKit, and Push Notification services to function; your use of those services is also governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. The app does not include third-party advertising networks, third-party analytics, or cross-app tracking software.
8. Data retention and deletion
Your content remains in your iCloud account until you delete it. You can remove gatherings, lists, and messages within the app, and you can delete the app's data from your Apple account through iOS Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage. Deleting the app removes its local copy of your data from that device.
9. Children's privacy
Eat | Greet | Gather is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Significant changes may also be noted within the app.
